Bad Goisern at Lake Hallstatt

The broad, tranquil Goisern valley stretches from Hallstatt in the south to Bad Ischl the Emperor's summer residence, to the north. A popular resort in both summer and winter, swimming or cross country skiing, mountain biking or and snowshoe hiking are among the many leisure pursuits Bad Goisern has to offer. Bad Goisern, located in the heart of Upper Austria, offers that perfect combination of sport facilities, nature, culture and historic tradition.

The "Goiserer" Shoe

Bad Goisern is also renowned for its hand-made walking boot, known affectionately by the locals as the “Goiserer”. This is one example of handcraftsmanship for which Bad Goisern is highly regarded.

At the Hand.Werk.Haus, visitors can not only discover more about the history of handicrafts in the area, but also purchase individual works of art. Artists at the Hand.Werk.Haus combine time-honoured techniques with modern ideas. The “Heimat- und Landlermuseum”, the “Holzknecht” (Lumberjack) Museum and the Anzenaumill Interactive Museum are all well worth a visit.
