Lake Hallstatt Swimathon
A swimathon in World Heritage surroundings. Lake Hallstatt has always been the centre point of the Inner Salzkammergut. Whether its main focus has been salt transport or fish, the lake is a dominant feature nestling between rugged mountain peaks.
Since 2011, the lake has beome a mecca, once a year, for keen swimmers. Bernhard Höll, one of the organisers of the Salzkammergut Mountainbike Trophy, is a leading figure in the organisation of this event too.
The event is now one of the Austrian Open-Water Cups and is also the longest route! It starts in Bad Goisern (Untersee bathing area) and ends in Obertraun (bathing area). Total length is 10 km. For further details of the swimathon:

Dutch swimmers on swimming camp in the Salzkammergut
From June 27th to 30th, 12 Dutch long-distance swimmers train in the Salzkammergut. After they had pitched their camp in Carinthia in the past 3 years, a swimming holiday in the beautiful Salzkammergut was organized for 2018 with the help of Bernhard Höll (organizer Hallstättersee swimming marathon). The program includes a full moon swimming in Obertraun and swimming through of Grundlsee (5km), Hallstättersee (8.5km) and Fuschlsee (4km). Above all, the Dutch swimmers appreciate the beautiful location of the lakes in the mountain landscape and the drinking water quality of the water, a wonderful contrast to swimming in the North Sea.
