Dachstein Round- a thrill for cyclists with three variations
The Dachstein Round
Due to its reputation, the Dachstein Round attracts more and more bike enthusiasts each year. This comes as no surprise. This mountainous region is a unique area of outstanding natural beauty with the majestic Dachstein as its central point. Of course you can „experience“ the mountains and the crystal clear lakes of the Salzkammergut on your bike. Whether you are trying out a multi-stage cycle route for the first time or you are an experienced world-class cyclist, the Dachstein Round is the perfect choice. The blue and red routes are the „classic“ routes, the black route is the longest and most challenging.
The blue variation
The ideal introduction to adventure bike tours. The route begins in the Dachstein Salzkammergut World Heritage Region which includes the Bad Goisern at Lake Hallstatt, Gosau at Dachstein, Hallstatt and Obertraun neighbourhoods. The tour takes you clock-wise round the imposing Dachstein Plateau: from the Bad Aussee region via the Viehbergalm to the Ennstal valley. Onwards to Ramsau and via the Salzburg Region back to Lake Hallstatt.
The red variation
The red route is more challenging than the original blue. The red route is the blue route completed in reverse. This means that the ascents are technically more challenging. On day one you cycle from Hallstatt to Gosau at Dachstein and are „rewarded“ with magnificent mountain scenery. From here you continue to Ramsau and are put through your paces before returning to the beautiful Salzkammergut.
The black variation
Bike enthusiasts can really clock up their metres in altitude, and this route is more challenging than the others – in terms of technique too. This does not mean, however, that it is suitable only for extreme bikers: along the blue route there are additional „black“ loops which allow cyclists to take in additional metres of altitude as well as „Singletrail-Plus“. The Dachstein Round is therefore perfect for couples and groups of cyclists with varying levels of fitness and experience, as, despite the variations in the route, each day ends at the same location.
