LOCK-DOWN FROM November, 17 to December 6, 2020:

  • Restaurants will be closed (food and drinks can be picked up from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., delivery service allowed without restrictions)
  • Accommodation facilities will be closed (exception for professional purposes and health resorts - get here to the accomodation facilities, that have opened for workers during lock-down)
  • Leisure facilities (showmen, fitness studios, swimming pools, leisure and amusement parks, thermal baths, cinemas, museums, zoos) will be closed
  • Use of cable cars and rack railroads is only permitted for specific purposes
  • Exit restrictions from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Events forbidden: Wedding, birthday and anniversary celebrations, trips with coaches, congresses, trade and public fairs and occasional markets (Advent markets)

The routes range from the legendary Dachsteinrunde (circuit tour), which lasts several days, to the technically challenging Salzkammergut Trophy training tracks, to leisurely mountain bike tours through the region, on alpine pastures, along lakes, through forests and past rustic huts, perfect for a break. When does the bike season in the Salzkammergut start?

The biking season in the Salzkammergut starts on April 15th if snow conditions are suitable and the tracks are open until October 31st. It is allowed to ride the tracks from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

How many bike kilometers are there in the Dachstein Salzkammergut with the villages Bad Goisern, Gosau, Hallstatt and Obertraun?

The Dachstein Salzkammergut provides 350 km of forest roads for mountain bikers thanks to the releases of the Austrian Federal Forests. The 350 km result in a signposted route network of around 650 km. The routes take you to all the highlights a mountain biker must have experienced in the Dachstein Salzkammergut from Lake Gosau and Dachstein to Lake Hallstatt and the eternal wall (Ewige Wand).

 

How many routes are there in the Dachstein Salzkammergut?

With the variants of the Dachstein round and the Mountain Lakes E-Trail, the Dachstein Salzkammergut comes on 30 routes in the towns of Bad Goisern, Gosau, Hallstatt and Obertraun. Most of the routes are in Bad Goisern and also lead to the neighbouring Bad Ischl and the Ausseerland.

 

Are the routes suitable for e-mountain bikers in the Dachstein Salzkammergut?

All of the routes are perfectly suited for e-bikers, as the route network consists mainly of forest roads leading to the lakes and huts in the Salzkammergut.

 

Which charging stations are there for e-mountain bikers?

Basically, you can charge your e-bike directly at the guesthouses and mountain huts on request, provided they have enough electricity.

 

Are there bike trails in the Dachstein Salzkammergut?

Despite the long tradition in mountain biking in the Dachstein Salzkammergut, there are only a few, easy trails. The tobogganing trail from the Predigstuhl (Raschberg tour) through the Ewige Wand to Anzenau, the Volksbankweg (Emperor tour) between the districts of St. Agatha and lawns and along the Gamsöfen (Emperor tour) (Attention: danger of falling!) The Dachstein Salzkammergut is thus largely aimed at mountain bikers and e-bikers who want to ride tours and enjoy the landscape, peace and quiet and cosy stops for a break. Due to the many climbs, the Dachstein Salzkammergut is an area for rather sporty riders, e-bikers on the other hand can enjoy the power of their engines to the full. The Inner Salzkammergut is also ideal as a training area for marathon riders thanks to the many routes and the Salzkammergut Trophy. Enduro bikers will only find some of the tracks on isolated sections or they can take advantage of the XCO area of the Bike Arena Obertraun to enjoy technically demanding tracks.

 

Is it possible to ride around the Lake Hallstatt and the Lake Gosau on mountain bikes?

Unfortunately, you cannot ride around Lake Gosau by bike. It is only possible on the east side. The Lake Hallstatt has a cycle path on the east side of the lake that leads into the village. On the west side there is a busy narrow road which is not suitable for bikers.

 

What are the rules for mountain biking?

Together with the ÖBF, the Alpenverein, the Salzkammergut Mountain Bike Trophy and the Tourism Association, the following rules have been summarized in the so-called Nature Guide:

  • ... only use marked routes at the specified time: 16 April to 31 October from 8.00 to 18.00
  • ... adhere to the applicable traffic regulations (Stvo).
  • ... respect other nature users
  • ... leave nothing in nature and dispose of our waste professionally.
  • ... collect only as much berries and mushrooms as we need for ourselves.
  • ... preserve nature and admire flowers in the countryside rather than wilting at home.
  • ... avoid disturbances of the peace and show consideration for flora and fauna.
  • ... observe the smoking ban and do not light a fire.
  • ... pay attention to and observe any instructions such as forestry work or barriers.
  • ... know that biking off the routes outside the approved times makes us illegal bikers.

The Salzkammergut Mountainbike Trophy always takes place in the middle of July, this year from 17th to 19th July 2020.

 

Are guided mountain bike tours offered in the Dachstein Salzkammergut?

Guided mountain bike tours in the region are offered by the Mountain Bike Competence Center Salzkammergut, Nemo Point-E-Bike Rental and Sport Jirka in Gosau at Dachstein.

 

Are there multi-day mountain bike tours?

In addition to the famous Dachstein Round, which can be mastered in several stages by both professionals and beginners, the Salzkammergut E-Trail also runs through the Dachstein Salzkammergut.
