After the Counter-Reformation, the "Tolerance Patent" allowed Protestants to practise their religion. The Protestant church in Hallstatt was built as a house of prayer on October 30, 1785.** From house of prayer to church ------------------------------ Following the decree of **Emperor Franz Joseph I**, all Protestants were guaranteed full **homeland rights and equal rights** in church and political life. At that time, **500 Hallstatt residents** professed their Protestant faith. From then on, the **construction of a new church** began. In October 1863, after only five years of construction, the new church in [**Hallstatt**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/hallstatt.html?utm_campaign=tourdata&utm_medium=text&utm_source=tourdata) was completed. Concerts in the church ---------------------- These days, the **Evangelical Church of Christ**, just a few steps from the [**historic market square**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/oesterreich-poi/detail/430003908/marktplatz-hallstatt.html), also regularly hosts cultural **concerts** . Especially in the summer months, numerous musicians from all over the world come to the [**World Heritage Site of Hallstatt**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/hallstatt.html?utm_campaign=tourdata&utm_medium=text&utm_source=tourdata) to perform numerous pieces in the **Christuskirche** . At the portal to the church there is a plaque with additional information about the church's history in German and English.
