**As the oldest house in the village Anzenau, the museum “Anzenaumühle” not only looks back on an ancient history, it also shows the way of life and work of past generations like no other house. In addition to a wealth of special features, it grants its visitors a deep look insight into the cultural, social and economic history of the Inner Salzkammergut.**

The adventure museum and its history
------------------------------------

The Anzenaumühle Adventure Museum consists of a so-called **"Paarhofverband"** with **a residential building, stable barn** and **adjoining sawmill, mill, plaster stamping mill and bakery**. The living quarters, mill and bakery are all under one roof, where people **used to live and work side by side**. No other house shows **the life and working methods of past generations in** such an **original** way and gives visitors such a **deep insight into the cultural, social and economic history of the Inner Salzkammergut**.

The history of the house is as long as it is interesting. The **oldest house in the settlement of Anzenau** was first **mentioned** in the Traunkirchen Urbar in **1325** and its history can be traced continuously since 1584. **The first view** comes from a **copperplate engraving by Merian** from **1646**.

The Anzenaumühle Adventure Museum is a **unique testimony to the typical architecture and way of life of the region**, measured by the various economic sectors that were practiced here. In its present appearance, the **house represents** the **building stock of the early 18th century**, with the two ox-eyes (oval-shaped windows) being particularly characteristic. The house is adjoined by an extension that is already more than 300 years old.

**Water was the central source of energy for the mill and sawmill.** The original approx. 8 m wide water supply (fluder) has now been replaced by a much more modest one. Nevertheless, a mill wheel still turns in the stream running past.

The **mill** itself, with its adjoining **bakery** , was still **in operation until 1960**.

A tour of the adventure museum
------------------------------

The museum has a wealth of special features: in addition to the **"Schwarze Kuchl"** , the **grain mill** is of particular importance. The **grinding room** , which extends over the entire basement and is only supported by one pillar, can be admired, as can the **various grinding processes, which are vividly demonstrated**. The "Koppmühle", the grain or rye mill, which is still in operation - currently dismantled so that the technology of the grinding process can be better understood - and the wheat or semolina mill are open to visitors.

In the **large parlor** with its green-flamed tiled stove and stove bench, visitors can experience **life in the old days** in an **authentic atmosphere**. A beamed ceiling from around 1600 in Renaissance style adorns the room. The **guild sign of a miller, baker and sawmill** hangs from the ceiling.

In the immediately adjacent **bakery** , all activities from weighing the flour to preparing the dough and shaping the loaves were carried out. In this room, display boards document the development of milling and show various milling and grinding techniques.

The rooms on the second floor are now used as a **gallery for temporary exhibitions**. The **barn** has also been **available for events** since 2009.

Today's sawmill originally comes from Lungendorf, Kirchdorf district. In 1964, the original sawmill was dismantled - completely unnecessarily as it turned out. Thanks to a stroke of luck, a sawmill of almost the same type was rebuilt more than 20 years later. The building was neatly dismantled and rebuilt in Lungendorf. Only the foundation wall and the roof were renewed. All other parts could be reassembled as they were built in 1814.
