Exactly half way round the "Löckenmoos Circular Trail" is the "Wildfrauenloch" - a fortune-bringing place to visit, high above the Gosau Gritstone Quarries.

Place of happiness in the Löckenmoos

The Löckensee in Gosau was voted the most beautiful place in Upper Austria and that's it too!
But watch out! You really have to earn that sight with a brisk walk!

Hiking trail to Löckenmoos

The Löckenmoos can be reached on foot from Gosau in 2 hours. There are various career opportunities:

Mittertal: Schäffergasse leads up the opposite side of the Hotel Sommerhof. At the end of the road, at the edge of the forest, begins the hiking trail 511 to Löckenmoos.
IMPORTANT: Parking is right next to the main street (lift car park Hornspitz)

Hintertal: Start at the forest road Hintertal. Then you change to the hiking trail 644, where you get to Löckenmoos after 2 hours walking.

The trails lead beautifully on well-marked trails through the forest. Appropriate hiking equipment, such as good and solid footwear are required.

With the Gosau Land Train to the Löckenmoos

The tourist office Gosau is happy to help with the organization of a shuttle bus or the Gosau Land Train up to the grindstones. Likewise, a guided hike over the Löckensee round can be booked.

We ask for attention, that also the offered ascent aids can not drive up to the Löckensee. There is still a walk uphill of half an hour.

The 10 000 year old Löckenmoos

Absolute loneliness and silence characterize this meditation place. Lie down, open your eyes and watch the clouds in the sky. You hear the birds, the soft breeze and feel the power of the millennia-old bog under you. Sink deep in the moss pad and take nature deep into you. The power station Löckensee is located on the 10 000-year-old Löckenmoos above the grindstone quarries in Gosau, amidst pines and heather bushes.

The virgins in the Löckenmoos

The small Löckensee, home to shy runners and shy virgins. The former leave small concentric circles on the smooth, almost black surface of the lake. According to legend, the women once lived in a crevice on the Grubenalm near the lake, in the Wildfrauenloch. The shy creatures helped the farmers with the grain cut.
