Gosau at Dachstein

Gosau, Oberösterreich, Österreich

Gosau at Dachstein, the small but picturesque village at the southernmost point of Upper Austria, is well embedded in the Holiday Region Dachstein Salzkammergut.

The hiking paradise in Gosau at Dachstein

No matter whether you come over the Gschütt pass of Salzburg or through the Gosauzwang of Bad Goisern, when you arrive in the Gosau valley you are immediately overwhelmed by the special beauty of the landscape. The imposing mountain range that rises at the end of the valley - the Gosaukamm - is certainly impressive. What was once considered a coral reef is now a popular area for hiking and climbing enthusiasts. But not only the Gosaukamm offers a variety of hiking routes, the surrounding peaks and alpine pastures are also popular destinations.

A true natural jewel and therefore a special destination is certainly the Deckenhochmoor Löckensee. This unique small natural moor lake, surrounded by Legföhren and numerous alpine grasses is always worth a hike. The best way to explore the Deckenhochmoor is on a guided hike. Here you will also pass the historical grinding stone quarries and the legendary "Wildfrauenloch".

Another highlight is the Gosaukammbahn. It takes you directly from the Lake Gosau to the hiking paradise on the Zwieselalm (mountain pasture). The carefree ascent offers everyone, large or small, young or old, the perfect opportunity to enjoy the alpine expanses, the magnificent alpine floor and the wonderful 360° panoramic view all the way to the Grossglockner.

The eye of God - the Lake Gosau

If one hears someone in Gosau speak of "the eye of God" there is no mention of religious statues or even a church, no! This is the unique Lake Gosau with the majestic King Dachstein behind it. The view over the small, protected mountain lake with the Dachstein, the highest mountain of the Salzkammergut, in the background is probably one of the most famous photo motives of the region. Especially the reflection of the Dachstein glacier in the crystal clear glacier water of the Lake Gosau is a true natural spectacle, which you must see once.

All this and much more belongs to a stress-free and unforgettable holiday, as you can experience it in Gosau at Dachstein. For more information please visit http://gosau.salzkammergut.at.
