About the Zwieselalm

The Zwieselalm, which was earlier also called Zwieselalpe, extends over heights between 1 300 m and 1 500 m, a high-alpine grazing area in the Dachstein Salzkammergut in Austria. It' located in the south of the Pass Gschütt, between Gosau in Upper Austria and Abtenau (or Annaberg-Lungötz Lammertal) in Salzburg. The central peak or actually hill (no cross only a mast), is the Zwieselalmhöhe with 1 587 m.

The Zwieselalm forms a northern foothills of the Gosaukamm (Donnerkogel 2 055 m). The Almen area also includes the Riedlkaralm (1 371m) on Annaberg side, Großedtalm (1 342m) and Kleinedtalm (1 348m) direction Abtenau / Rußbach,in the north then the Breiningalm.

In summer, the Zwieselalm is a beautiful hiking area, which can be reached either by foot or with the Gosaukamm cable car from Lake Gosau. In winter, the Zwieselalm forms a part of the Dachstein-West ski area, where, in addition to perfect conditions for families, there are also some freeride runs for experienced winter sports fans.
