Local people and visitors alike gain an enormous amount of pleasure from the SalzAlpenSteig. The **235 km long route** from the Chiemsee via the Königsee Lake to [Lake Hallstatt](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/informieren/unsere-seen/hallstaettersee.html "To the article: Lake Hallstatt") - or the other way round - provides the perfect opportunity for people to meet and get to know people from neighbouring communities. The **„SalzAlpenSteig“** combines previously existing trails into a multi-region network, and, as such, also unites areas of outstanding natural beauty as well as **historic salt mining** communities. 25 other **„SalzAlpenTours“** exist already. They vary in length from 7 to 40 km (the total length of the network is 315 km) with 90 km of adjoining trails - the **„SalzAlpenWege“**. They compete in popularity with even the most famous trails in Europe, such as the Pilgrimage Trail to Santiago de Compostela. The central focus for this fascinating trail stretching from Lake Hallstatt to the Chiemsee Lake is **„Mountains and Salt“**.
