Characterised by salt mining and the natural treasures that surround the region, the Holiday Region Dachstein Salzkammergut has developed own customs and traditions over the years. We are particularly proud of our craftsmanship, which is practised with great passion in the region's small and large businesses.

Living craftsmanship

The Hand.Werk.Haus Salzkammergut in the Neuwildenstein Castle provides an insight into the variety of regional craft businesses in the region. On three floors, the colourful diversity of local craftsmanship can be experienced, from its history to current connections. Not only the masterpieces of the member businesses, which range from roofers to carpenters, from shoemakers to soap boilers, from butchers to mustard makers, but also the people behind the traditional businesses, some of which have been in existence for 200 years, are presented.

Music as the elixir of life

Folk music, for which the Inner Salzkammergut is famous, is a very special part of our customs and crafts. Music is an integral part of our lives and is passed on from generation to generation. At the many events such as the brass band holiday, violin festival or Goiserer Gamsjagatage, you not only experience the customs, but also the music and are right in the middle of it all.

“Gschmoh” and genuine

In the kitchens of the regional restaurants, traditional Austrian dishes are conjured up in a modern way, with a lot of passion and using the best ingredients from the region. Whether in the rustic alpine huts along the hiking and biking trails, the inns with idyllic guest gardens and cosy parlours that invite you to linger, or the World Heritage inn, everyone will find a place to feast here. The landlord and landlady welcome locals and guests with such warmth and hospitality that you can immediately sense the drinking and eating culture of the Inneres Salzkammergut, based on conviviality and good, honest food.
