Observatory Jochwand

Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee, Oberösterreich, Österreich
  • All weather

The "Jochwand Point of View" was built 1860 by Prince Lichtenstein.
Here you will have a beautiful view to the valley of Bad Goisern, to Lake Hallstatt and the surrounding mountains.

Hiking via the so-called "Hammerberg"

On this hike via the Hammerberg to Weißenbach surefootedness is required

According to a legend from former times a giant has broken the valley from Bad Goisern at Lake Hallstatt into two parts by a hammer.

The Jochwand point of view can be reached via the path from Weißenbach or via Unterjoch (Rassingmühle, Hanuschhof) or the Maiswaldwarte.

The hike takes around 3 till 4 hours, depending on your fitness level. You will move on gravel paths, short asphalt routes, forest roads and about 70% on a natural hiking trail.

This certified premium hiking trail is also called "Salzalpentour",  is marked with this name in colour blue and yellow) and can be easily followed

Once again: If you want to do this hike via the "Hammerberg" you should be sure-footed.

Experience a 360° panorama tour through Bad Goisern at Lake Hallstatt…
