Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt

Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Tradition and customs, folk music and craftsmanship, harmony and opposites - this is what unites the Goiserer valley in the heart of the Salzkammergut. The birthplace of Hubert von Goisern gently hugs Lake Hallstatt in the north and the imperial city of Bad Ischl in the south.

Surrounded by mountain panoramas, located directly on the beautiful Lake Hallstatt, Bad Goisern enchants visitors with its charming town centre, flower-decorated houses, beautiful landscape and many idyllic places. With its good infrastructure, "Goisern" is a popular holiday destination for relaxation, as a climatic health resort and as a starting point for exploring the surrounding nature of the UNESCO World Heritage region. The Hand.Werk.Haus Salzkammergut and traditional and musical events are also well worth a visit.

More about Bad Goisern and why it's worth coming here.

Active holidays in the Salzkammergut

Together with the villages Gosau am Dachstein, Hallstatt and Obertraun is Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee is part of the UNESCO World Heritage region of Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut. One moment you're wearing a dirndl and leather trousers at a festival - the next you're in a sporty biker outfit for mountain biking, gravel biking and road biking, with hiking boots, hiking hat and walking stick on one of the numerous hiking trails in the valley or on the mountain or with bow and arrow on one of our archery field courses.

Refreshment and sport in Lake Hallstatt

Bad Goisern lies on the shores of Lake Hallstatt, one of the most famous lakes in the Salzkammergut. In harmony with nature, the lake nestles in the idyllic landscape between the Sarstein, Obertraun, Hallstatt and Bad Goisern. Motorboats are largely prohibited (with the exception of tour boats) and the lake therefore retains its drinking water quality. It is not only popular with swimmers, but also with divers and athletes who want to cool off in the lake after an activity.

A place full of tradition, customs and crafts

In Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt, tradition and customs are still very much alive. Be it at the regulars' tables in the inns, where you can still meet the locals in dirndls and lederhosen, be it at the various event highlights such as the Goiserer Gamsjagatagen or the Aufgeigen in the Kirchengasse.

The crafts are important to the people of Goisern. In the Hand.Werk.Haus in Neuwildenstein Castle, you can learn a lot about the history of craftsmanship. You can also visit real, rustic production facilities and experience production live on site, such as the Original Goiserer Schuhmacher, the AnNAMAX mustard factory or the Anzenaumühle.

Our Bad Goisern tip: Try delicious regional delicacies (e.g. Holzknechtnockn, chamois, char) after an extended mountain bike or e-bike tour in summer or a ski tour in winter. Here is a map of Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt
