Hike into the World Heritage Site.
As part of World Heritage Day 2026, the World Heritage Management of the UNESCO Cultural Landscape Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut invites you to a special hike along the historic "Paths of Salt". The guided tour leads through a landscape that has been shaped by salt mining and the transportation of "white gold" for centuries.
The starting point is the Steegwirt in Steeg. After meeting in the morning and a short introduction, the program begins with a visit to the historic Seeklause and the Steegwirt. This is followed by a trip by post bus to Bad Goisern to the iodine sulphur baths, where the actual hike begins.
The participants hike in two groups to the historic Chorinsky-Klause. One route leads directly there, while the second follows the Jochwandweg. Both groups then meet up again and continue the hike together along the historic transport routes.
During the tour, experts provide fascinating insights into the history of salt and timber transportation in the Salzkammergut. These routes were decisive for the economic development of the region for centuries and still shape the cultural landscape of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut today.
Participation is free of charge. The guide, bus trip and a snack at the Chorinsky-Klause are covered by the World Heritage Management.
