New Year's Eve Bonfire at Lake Hallstatt

Between Christmas and New Year's Eve, the residents of Obertraun and numerous visitors bid farewell to the old year in a very special, traditional way.

A Beautiful Tradition to Ring in the New Year

The burning of the old year at Lake Hallstatt takes place on December 28 in Obertraun , according to an old custom.

At 6:00 p.m., the torchlight hike through the snow-covered winter forest begins .
Far away from the stress and hustle and bustle of everyday life, you’ll experience a unique atmosphere at Lake Hallstatt. A mystical, unforgettable evening awaits you.

For children, it’s an adventure-filled experience, complete with a campfire for grilling sausages and “ ,” and for everyone, a large “wish and worry fire.”
Symbolically burn the worries and fears of the past year in a huge bonfire and toss your wishes, thoughts, and resolutions for the coming year into the “wish fire” so that they may come true.

The New Year’s Eve bonfire will be accompanied by music from a brass ensemble of the Obertraun Local Band.
