Obertraun Mountain Moments - sunrise trip to the summit of the Krippenstein in Autumn

Marvel at the magical natural spectacle

During the sunrise rides up the Krippenstein, enjoying the sunrise at 2,100 m, starting with the ride in the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car , is literally "rising out of the darkness".

The cable car station, built in the 1950s, stands mystically surrounded by forest on a small hill slightly away from the village of Obertraun. In the darkness, the headlights of the cars dance like little lights through the forest and nature lovers still meet at the cable car station in the dark of night.

The red fireball

Off we go and the cable car gondola slowly floats up into the air. On the horizon, mountain peak after mountain peak, dimly bathed in glowing red. Arriving at 2,100 m, you wonder why the word "dawn" exists. It is a dawn in all its shades and it gets stronger and brighter until the sun rises out of the glowing colors as a red ball of fire. The sight of the sun is so strong at this moment that you can see it even with your eyes closed. If you now turn your back on the sun and look towards the Dachstein, the view is at least as impressive. Bit by bit, the Dachstein summit, the glacier, the Dirndln, the Koppenkarstein and all the other peaks are bathed in soft light. A new day has dawned, a shimmering fleecy cloud wanders over the summit massif, followed by its small shadow.

Tip: One of the most beautiful hikes is the Heibronner Rundwanderweg, which leads from the Gjaid Alm, past the Dachstein Hai, back to the Krippenstein.
