Paragliding in the Dachstein Salzkammergut
Where can I go paragliding in the Dachstein Salzkammergut?
In the Dachstein Salzkammergut Region, the Dachstein Krippenstein is best for those with some experience! The Krippenstein is also ideal for tandem flights. Sky Club Austria’s Safety Training Centre offers optimum training conditions for pilots of all levels of experience! There are 1500 metres of altitude between the spacious and well-maintained take-off and landing sites.
The Sky Club Austria has exclusive use of the paragliding sites on the Krippenstein. Course participants have priority use of the take-off sites, uninterrupted air space above the water, and their own landing site by the lake.
What do I need to do if I want to paraglide from the Dachstein Krippenstein?
To be allowed to go paragliding from the Dachstein Krippenstein you must first register with the Sky Club Austria School of Aviation as a test pilot and purchase a day or annual pass. Membership of Sky Club Austria is, of course, available too and includes the user fees for the take-off and landing sites in the Flypark Dachstein. Her you can purchase your Sky Club Austria membership or paragliding ticket.
What equipment will I need?
You should choose your paragliding equipment with the help of an expert. Sky Club Austria is always happy to assist! Basic paragliding equipment includes a paraglider, harness, helmet and a rescue parachute. An altimeter is always useful too!
Your choice of clothing is of upmost importance when paragliding! What you wear is, of course, dependant on the weather and air temperature, but it is essential that your outer layer of clothing is wind-proof. Sturdy shoes which provide ankle support are essential for take-off and landing!
How do I get to the summit of the Dachstein Krippenstein?
Take the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car to the summit. Then it is just a short walk of about 10 minutes in the direction of the 5 Fingers viewing platform til you land at the take-off site! Here is the timetable for the cable car.
What happens when I land?
After landing you need to pack away your paraglider and then open it out again when you get home to help it dry. Using the proper packing technique will ensure your equipment lasts longer and will prevent annoying knots in the ropes. This knot-free procedure works just as well with a paraglider that is hung from a harness as without a harness. The leashes must always be taut! You should never pull the paraglider apart as long as the leashes are lying on the ground. Thi8s leads to knots!
Now to the packing up process! The paraglider is folded like a tulip (take care: don’t fold too tightly) and then lay it on the pack sack. Keep the ropes as short as possible! Roll them up and lay them in the centre of the paraglider. Fold up a piece of the top surface so that it can be used as a material loop which will make it easier next time for unpacking.
Do not pack too tightly!
Courses and tandem flights
Beginners‘ courses and advanced courses are available at the aviation school. The courses last a week and you can also take part in training flights under the guidance of the aviation school on a daily basis. The Skyclub can lend you basic equipment sets or can advise on what to provide yourself. Please reserve your place on a course in advance.
You can also reserve a tandem flight. As a passenger you will fly with an instructor with many years of experience! Reserve your place.
