Exactly half way round the "Löckenmoos Circular Trail" is the "Wildfrauenloch" - a fortune-bringing place to visit, high above the Gosau Gritstone Quarries.
The Löckensee in Gosau was voted the most beautiful place in Upper Austria - and it is!
But watch out! You really have to earn this view with a strenuous hike !
The Löckenmoos can be reached on foot from Gosau in 2 hours. There are various ascent options:
Mittertal: On the opposite side of the Hotel Sommerhof, Schäffergasse leads uphill. At the end of the road, at the edge of the forest, hiking trail 511 to Löckenmoos begins.
IMPORTANT: Parking spaces can be found right next to the main road (Hornspitz lift parking lot)
Hintertal: Start at the Hintertal forest road. Then change to hiking trail 644, which will take you to Löckenmoos after a 2-hour walk.
The hiking trails lead beautifully through the forest on well-marked paths. Appropriate hiking equipment, such as good, sturdy footwear , is required.
The Gosau tourist office will be happy to help you organize a shuttle bus or the Gosau slow train to the grinding stone quarries . You can also book a guided hike on the Löckensee circuit.
Please note that even the lifts offered cannot take you all the way to Löckensee. There is still an uphill walk of half an hour.

Absolute solitude and silence characterize this meditation spot. Lie down, open your eyes and watch the clouds in the sky. You will hear the birds, the gentle wind and feel the power of the millennia-old moss beneath you. Sink deep into the cushion of moss and absorb nature. The Löckensee power place is located on the 10,000-year-old Löckenmoos, above the grinding stone quarries in Gosau, in the midst of mountain pines and heather bushes.
The small Löckensee, home to shy sandpipers and shy damsels. The former leave small concentric circles on the smooth, almost black surface of the lake. According to legend , the women once lived in a crevice on the Grubenalm not far from the lake, in the Wildfrauenloch. The shy creatures helped the farmers to cut the grain.
Experience a 360° panoramic tour through the Gosau valley...
The natural "gem" Löckenmoos is accessible from May to October.
