If the snow conditions are right, the bike season in the Salzkammergut begins on 15th of April and the routes are then open until 31st of October. Driving on the routes is permitted in April and September from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., from May to August from 7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. and October from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Thanks to the approval of the Austrian Federal Forests, the Dachstein Salzkammergut can provide around 200 kilometers of forest roads for mountain bikers. With multiple journeys, this results in a tour network of 800 kilometers. The routes lead you to all the highlights a mountain biker must have experienced in the Dachstein Salzkammergut, from Gosausee and Dachstein to Lake Hallstatt and the Eternal Wall (Ewige Wand).
With the variants of the Dachstein circuit and the Berge Seen E-Trail, the Dachstein Salzkammergut has 22 routes in the towns of Bad Goisern, Gosau, Hallstatt and Obertraun. Most of the routes are located in Bad Goisern and also lead to neighboring Bad Ischl and the Ausseerland.
All of the routes are perfectly suited for e-bikers, as the route network consists mainly of forest roads leading to the lakes and huts in the Salzkammergut.
Basically, you can charge your e-bike directly at the guesthouses and mountain huts on request, provided they have enough electricity.
Despite the long tradition of mountain biking in the Dachstein Salzkammergut, there are only a few, easy trails in the Dachstein Salzkammergut. The toboggan run from the Predigstuhl (Raschbergrunde) through the Ewige Wand to Anzenau, and the Gamsöfen (Kaisertour) along the Dachstein Salzkammergut is therefore largely aimed at mountain bikers and e-bikers who want to go on tours and enjoy the landscape, peace and quiet and cozy refreshments. Due to the many climbs, the Dachstein Salzkammergut is an area for more sporty drivers, but e-bikers can enjoy the power of their engines here to the fullest. The Inner Salzkammergut is also ideal as a training area for marathon riders thanks to the many routes and the Salzkammergut Trophy. Enduro bikers only partially find what they are looking for on a few sections or switch to the XCO area of the Bike Arena Obertraun to enjoy technically demanding routes.
Unfortunately, you cannot ride around Lake Gosau by bike. It is only possible on the east side. The Lake Hallstatt has a cycle path on the east side of the lake that leads into the village. On the west side there is a busy narrow road which is not suitable for bikers.
Together with the ÖBF, the Alpenverein, the Salzkammergut Mountain Bike Trophy and the Tourism Association, the following rules have been summarized in the so-called Nature Guide:
