Rules of conduct in the nature

The Dachstein Salzkammergut belongs to the elite circle of UNESCO World Heritage Regions. UNESCO states that. "The alpine region Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut is an outstanding example of a natural landscape of great beauty and scientific importance,....". This natural landscape is also very close to the heart of the Holiday Region Dachstein Salzkammergut. Therefore, together with the four municipalities, the Österreichischen Bundesforsten, the Alpenverein, the Naturfreunde, the Landesjagdverband, the Oberösterreichischen Landesjagdverband, Jagdverbamd, Skimo Austria, the Upper Austria State government and the Holiday Region Dachstein Salzkammergut, we have drawn up the following rules of conduct.

These rules of conduct are probably already known or understood by experienced ski tourers. Especially in recent years, many new members have joined the family of ski tourers and snowshoe hikers. We are happy to make a small contribution to preserving our beautiful natural landscape at the foot of the Dachstein.

The following photo gallery can be navigated with the arrow keys (left, right).

We:

  • stay on the officially marked ski routes and trails in the Holiday Region Dachstein Salzkammergut.

  • adhere to the fact that skiing in the forest off the marked pistes or ski routes is prohibited.

  • never ski through reforestation and young growth areas. The ski edges destroy the still young trees.

  • keep sufficient distance from individual trees or groups of trees. Because they are an important staging area for black grouse, snow hares.

  • keep our dogs on a leash.

  • avoid game as far as possible. We observe wild animals only from a distance and do not approach them further in order not to subject them to unnecessary stress.

  • avoid designated feeding areas, wildlife rest areas and noise.

  • avoid spending time in nature before sunrise and after sunset as well as at dusk. This is an important period for wildlife in winter for feeding and resting, which is essential for survival.

  • Special attention should also be paid to safety equipment. The Snow Safety Programme from our partner Arva offers great preparation.

Safety tip and disclaimer:

"The ski and snowshoe tours described are in open alpine terrain and are undertaken at the skier's own risk. The selection of the presented tours was made with the best possible avoidance of objective dangers, but presuppose personal responsibility and anticipatory action. The cold weather and the short days in winter are to be considered in the tour planning as well as the snow situation. Appropriate clothing and the carrying of alpine emergency equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, bivy sack and cell phone) are prerequisites for a responsible mountain experience. Should an emergency situation arise, the alpine emergency number in Austria is 140."
