Heritage and Landler Museum

Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee, Oberösterreich, Österreich
  • All weather
  • Suitable for groups

The Heritage and Landler museum in Bad Goisern at Lake Hallstatt gives its guests a comprehensive insight into the history and handcraft of Bad Goisern as well as their folk culture and folk arts. In addition, it is dedicated to the history and way of life of the Landler, who had to leave the region due to their Protestant belief.

Since 1976 the Bad Goisern Heritage museum is situated in the former so called “Auszugshaus” of the Goiserer Mühle and was expanded in 1992 by the Landler Museum with the support of the municipalities of Bad Goisern and the Upper Austria government.

This year's special exhibition is dedicated to "Zahler Robert".

The Bad Goisern Heritage Museum

The Bad Goisern Heritage museum is located on the first floor and the top floor of the house. The focus of the collection includes the history of Bad Goisern, the shooting community in Goisern, the Goiserer violins, famous Goiserers including the chiropractic Gottlieb Oberhauser, painter von Goisern, folk culture and folk arts as well as pictures by the first photographer von Goisern. A special feature is the originally preserved and completely furnished shoemaker's room, in which the production of the famous Goiserer mountain boots is shown. The documentation of the farmer and Goiserer Mayor Konrad Deubler (1814-1889), who is also known as the "farmer's philosopher", deserves special attention. In his will he determined that his private 1 400-volume library and several of his collectibles should be kept unchanged and made available to the public. Deubler dealt intensively with the works of great philosophers and endeavored to pass on his knowledge to the population.

The Landler Museum

The Landler Museum is located on the ground floor of the idyllic house since 1992. Here, over 350 original objects provide an overview of the 270-year history and way of life of the Landler, an ethnic group in today's Romania. These emigrants who emigrated in the 18th century originally lived in and around Bad Goisern and had to leave the country because they did not change thein evangelic confession. The focus of the exhibition is the rural everyday life and festival culture, the world of work as well as folk culture, church and school.
