An interesting cave in the rocks below the Goisern Hut. In the years of Religious Reformation, almost the entire Upper Austrian Salzkammergut became protestant. Pressure, however, from the strict catholic Habsburger, became too great.
Up to 25th October 1601, the inhabitants of the local salt-mining villages sought to celebrate their religious beliefs and to protect them right up to the last minute. As such they held meetings and worshipped in secret locations. Translations of the religious scriptures by Martin Luther were indispensable, and preaching by mouth was not enough.
