Behaviour in case of fire

1. Keep calm!
2. If possible, try to extinguish the fire - but only if you are not endangering yourself in the process
3. Otherwise, leave the danger zone, close windows and doors if possible
4. Make an emergency call and alert the fire brigade by dialling 122
5. Warn other people and bring them to safety
6. Wait in safety for the fire brigade and instruct them when they arrive

Deaf and hearing-impaired people can use a "text-based emergency call" (DEC112) to contact the police (112 and 133).

112 is the European emergency number that can be used free of charge in all EU countries.

The European emergency number can be dialled from any telephone. No credit or network contract is required for mobile phones. This is how you can reach the emergency services, fire brigade or police

Tips for poor reception

• Switch your mobile phone off and on again immediately.
• Enter the number 112 instead of the PIN code. The mobile phone automatically searches for the mobile network with the best reception and establishes a connection to the nearest safety centre.

What information is important for the rescue team:

• Where did the emergency occur - what is the address?
• How many people are affected?
• What exactly has happened?

What to do in an emergency before help arrives

• Provide first aid - it's easy and you can't go wrong.
• Follow the expert instructions on the phone.
• Try to remain calm and give the injured person good encouragement.

Important information in an emergency:

• What: name the substance or product as exact as possible - see packaging
• How much: specify quantities as precisely as possible
• Who: age, weight, sex and condition of the person(s) affected
• When: time of contact
• Where: location of the incident
• How: Ingestion, inhalation or skin contact
• Why: unintentional or intentionally induced poisoning

The telephone health advice centre 1450 is available

• without dialling an area code from anywhere in Austria
• 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

The staff are on hand to help and give you advice and useful tips on where to turn.

In Austria, around 220 pharmacies are on call every night, at weekends and on public holidays. The pharmacies take turns so that each pharmacy is on call several times a month, including at night, at weekends and on public holidays.

Rapid assistance in alpine terrain.

The mountain rescuers provide a non-profit, voluntary rescue service in alpine terrain.

The mountain rescue team is on call around the clock 365 days a year and provides rapid assistance.

Swimming rules

1. If you go swimming, you must be healthy
2. Pay attention to the signs
3. Only go into the water when you have showered and cooled down
4. Don't stay in the water if you are cold, otherwise you could get cramps!
5. Do not swim, jump or dive if you have an earache
6. If you have eaten a lot, wait an hour before going back into the water.
7. Protect yourself from the sun
8. Don't let others persuade you to do something you're not good at
9. Only jump into the water where it is allowed!
10. Watch the people around you! Call for help if someone is in danger!
