The Natural History Museum Vienna and the Hallstatt Salt Mine invite you to "Archaelogy on the Mountain" and provide insights into the world of prehistoric miners.
The focus this year is on “Resources, Crises and Sustainability through the Millennia”.
In no other valley are traces of industrial and salt history in such a small area. Researchers from a wide variety of disciplines present the latest results on the 7000 year salt history of the World Heritage Site Hallstatt.
With the large brewing pan, experience how much energy there is in one kilogram of wood. Try making a Bronze Age garment or twist your own bast rope. You can immerse yourself in the world of mining and learn how scientists research the environment of the prehistoric mine.
The event to join in, try out and discover is aimed at families and interested parties: See, hear, test and be amazed! Participation in the event is free. You only pay for the ascent and descent with the Hallstatt Salt Mine Railway.
