One of the most beautiful sights in the World Heritage town of Hallstatt is certainly the historical market square, which is the place of numerous events every year.
On the historic market square in Hallstatt, you will find souvenir shops, cafés, restaurants and a bar. Linger comfortably on the historical market square and enjoy the unique flair of the World Heritage town of Hallstatt.
While numerous square concerts of the local brass band are held here in summer, the market square during Advent turns into a romantic pre-christmas meeting point for young and old.
The market square dates back to the 14th century. In the middle of the market square is the Trinity Column, which was donated by a couple from Hallstatt who made salt, in the middle of the 18th century. Plague columns, also called trinity columns, are monuments that commemorate the time of the plague, or were given as a thank you for the fact that the plague was over.
