Current closures in the Dachstein Salzkammergut

Here you will find a list of our current closures in the Holiday Region Dachstein Salzkammergut.

Footpath into the Hallstatt high valley

The footpath into the Hallstatt High Valley is now closed until the opening of the Salzberg cable car in 2026. The high valley is currently only accessible via the cable car.

Renovation of the Cable Car & Facilities at Salt mine Hallstatt

Dear guests, Exciting changes are coming to Salzwelten Hallstatt! Starting September 1, 2025, the existing cable car, as well as the valley and mountain stations, will undergo extensive renovations to offer even greater comfort and capacity in the future. For this reason, the cable car and the Hallstatt Salt Mine will be temporarily closed until June 2026. The reopening of the new facilities is scheduled just in time for the summer season.

The lift and the bridge in the Hallstatt high valley are no longer in operation until the closure. An alternative means of access to the Rudolfsturm and the mine has been created: Temporarily erected staircases will of course still allow visitors to visit, but require a certain level of physical fitness. A total of around 800 steps (outward and return journey) have to be negotiated. We recommend that you wear sturdy shoes and allow sufficient time for the ascent.

During the construction period, we invite you to explore our other fascinating locations:

  • Salzwelten Salzburg – discover the thrilling history of salt in one of the world's oldest show mines.
  • Salzwelten Altaussee – delve into Austria’s largest active salt mine with unique insights into history and mining.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you back to Salzwelten Hallstatt soon!

Closure of the Sophienbrücke in Bad Goisern

The Sophienbrücke is from now on opened for pedestrians and cyclists, closed for cars.

Fallen trees Hochmuth

Due to fallen trees, the descent/ascent at Hochmuth is not possible. There are also very deep water channels due to heavy rain. Please use the road as an alternative.

Koppenpass cycle path & hiking trail closed

Due to urgent slope stabilisation measures, the Koppental R2 - R19 cycle path connection and the Koppental Obertraun - Bad Aussee hiking trail will be closed and impassable from 23/06 - 27/06/2025 and from 30/06 - 03/07/2025. The closure does not apply at weekends (SA-SO) or on non-working days.

Alternative route: For cyclists along the L 547 country road via Koppenpass (beware of steep gradients!) or the option of using ÖBB train connections.
