Footpath into the Hallstatt high valley

The footpath into the Hallstatt High Valley is now closed until the opening of the Salzberg cable car in 2026. The high valley is currently only accessible via the cable car.

 

Renovation of the Cable Car & Facilities at Salt mine Hallstatt

Dear guests, Exciting changes are coming to Salzwelten Hallstatt! Starting September 1, 2025, the existing cable car, as well as the valley and mountain stations, will undergo extensive renovations to offer even greater comfort and capacity in the future. For this reason, the cable car and the Hallstatt Salt Mine will be temporarily closed until June 2026. The reopening of the new facilities is scheduled just in time for the summer season.

During the construction period, we invite you to explore our other fascinating locations:

Closure of the Sophienbrücke in Bad Goisern

The Sophienbrücke is from now on opened for pedestrians and cyclists, closed for cars.

 

Rail replacement service between Steeg - Gosau and Stainach - Irdning

Due to construction work between the railway stations Steeg-Gosau and Stainach-Irdning, the route is only available for rail traffic to a limited extent.
We have organised a rail replacement service for you. The buses are labelled "Rail replacement service".

Period from 05. May - 25. May 2025

 

Koppental cycle and hiking trail closed - May 2025

Due to rock clearance and logging work along the ÖBB railway line, the Koppental cycling and hiking trail is temporarily closed in the area between the "Koppenbrüllerhöhle" railway station (plot no. 194) and the Upper Austria/Styria state border (plot no. 454/66, KG Obertraun).

Affected periods:

  • 05 to 09 May 2025 (week 19) | daily from 07:30 to 16:30
  • 12 to 16 May 2025 (week 20) | daily from 07:30 to 16:30
  • 19 to 23 May 2025 (week 21) | daily from 07:30 to 16:30
     

Attention:
During the work, the affected area will be closed for safety reasons. In addition, there may be short-term stops of 15 to 20 minutes during these periods.

 

Restricted forest area Durchgangalm

Since 24 March 2025, the ÖBF has been carrying out forest maintenance measures by means of timber harvesting in the Hallstatt FR. The connection between Echerntal and Gosau is affected, specifically routes 534, 536, 800, 840 and 512.
The work on the MTB routes is expected to last up to and including 18 April 2025. At a later date, after the first bark beetle flight, around mid-May, we will have to carry out timber harvesting at the height of the Durchgangsalm. This will take about two weeks.

Fallen trees Hochmuth

Due to fallen trees, the descent/ascent at Hochmuth is not possible. There are also very deep water channels due to heavy rain. Please use the road as an alternative.

 

Closure Gosauleitenstraße- fallen trees

Due to fallen trees and the resulting work, the Gosauleitenstraße is closed until further notice - diversion via the federal road is possible.
