Obertraun at the foot of the Krippenstein
The Dachstein Krippenstein cable car transports visitors up to the Ice Caves, the Mammoth Caves and the Caves Museum on the Schönbergalm. Visitors wishing to reach the summit of the Krippenstein need to take sections 1 and 2 of the cable car. It is a gentle 25 minute walk from here to the “5 Fingers”, and a short detour to the World Heritage Spiral and the Krippenstein Chapel.
Heilbronn Way
Walkers following the Heilbronn Way can enjoy stunning views of the Dachstein massif. The trail ends at the Gjaidalm. The return to the valley is via all 3 sections of the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car.
Koppenbrüller Cave
Down in the valley, the Obertraun Theme Trail leads to the Koppenbrüller Caves. Following the trail further you reach the Koppenwinkel Nature Preservation Area and the Koppenwinkelalm pasture land. The Koppenwinkel is believed to be a place of good fortune. The bathing area on the shore of Lake Hallstatt is a popular place for walkers and cyclists to stop and take a rest. Obertraun is a hidden gem, and it is well worth paying a visit to discover what else it has to offer.
