Which equipment do I need for cross-country skiing?

If you are going cross-country skiing for the first time, you should make sure that you have good cross-country skiing equipment in advance (we also have equipment for hire). It starts with the right clothing and goes from cross-country poles, binding and boots to the right size of cross-country skis.

Which cross-country discipline?

Right from the start you don't have to decide whether you want to skate or prefer classic cross-country skiing. You can start with all-rounder cross-country skis and then decide for classic or skating cross-country skiing, or of course for both techniques (alternating). The biggest difference between the techniques is that you always ski classic in a given track and skate on a smoothed snow track. Skating is a bit faster.

Which cross-country equipment?

Depending on the style, the hardware, i.e. the cross-country poles, cross-country binding, cross-country boots and cross-country skis are also selected. We recommend that you consult a specialist. Factors such as weight, size, cross-country discipline and manufacturer play an important role in the choice of hardware. A tip from us: Buy bindings according to shoes or shoes according to bindings. A mixture of the manufacturers is not possible for cross-country skiing.

For cross-country clothing, the same applies as for other endurance sports: not too warm and not too cold. Runners certainly already have most of the right equipment at home: functional shirts, functional underwear, functional trousers, functional socks and functional jackets. You also need sunglasses, a breathable hood or headband and cross-country skiing gloves. Of course, the equipment varies depending on the weather. What should never be missing, especially during longer cross-country skiing tours, is enough to drink and snacks as well as a first aid kit.
