Diving in the Dachstein Salzkammergut

Lake Hallstatt is without doubt one of the classic diving experiences in the Salzkammergut, and the lake is, of course, renowned for its outstandingly beautiful surroundings.  The lake is well-stocked with fish too, making it even more appealing to visitors. A beautiful view for diving offers Lake Gosau too - the tarn convinces with its clearness: in summer as well as in winter.

Lake Hallstatt

508m above sea level - Depth 125m – Both above and beneath the water, the Hallstatt Diving Station at Lahn is one of the most archeologically, geologically and biologically interesting places to visit on the World Heritage Lake Hallstatt. If you are in luck, you might also see pike, trout and eel-pouts hunting for minnows and roaches. Discover underwater trees that date back to 400 - 600 BC. A dive to the wreck of the "Kronprinz Rudolf" makes for an exciting excursion.

And for visitors wishing to get married, there is an underwater altar depicting a beautiful Madonna with Christ Child. Here you can be married, underwater, by priests and registrars! Those with no diving experience need just 5 days‘ diving tuition to be able to get married! There are daily boat trips for divers and escorted dives whereby you can discover the best places on the lake.

Dive times: all year round from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m. Summer from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Night dives organized by the local Diving Club.

Lake Gosau

960m above sea level - Depth 96m – This glacial lake located in Gosau at Dachstein is one of the most photographed in the world. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful too with its reflections of the Dachstein. There is much to offer under the surface ...

Lake Gosau is decidedly the clearest in the Salzkammergut, and provides good visibility underwater too. Ice–diving is possible in the winter months.

Diving: May to November from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Night diving can be arranged through the local Diving Club.
