Bathing and swimming in the Dachstein Salzkammergut

In the Holiday Region Dachstein Salzkammergut there are many opportunities to relax in the water and enjoy the crystal clear lakes. Lake Hallstatt and the Lower Lake Gosau are accessible free of charge and the lakeside bathing areas offer lots of variety for young and old.

Before you set off with your family and friends for one of the lakeside bathing areas in Bad Goisern, Hallstatt, Gosau or Obertraun, or you simply want some time out from the stresses and strains of everyday life on your own, we recommend you check your beach bag or kit bag again, because you should definitely take the following with you for a day at the Lake.

The checklist for a relaxing day at the lake:

  • Swimming costume/trunks, sandals/flip-flops, sunglasses, sun hat/cap
  • Towels
  • Sun cream, parasol
  • Drinks, snacks (there are snacks available at most public bathing areas)
  • Playing cards/board games
  • Newspaper/magazine/book
  • Beach ball, lilo, stand-up-paddle board

Swimming makes you stronger

Swimming is ideal for building strength. Through various exercises and swimming training aids (eg Pullbuoy, Paddles, Kickboard), which you can easily incorporate into your swimming routine, you strengthen your upper and lower body. Changes of pace and swimming style help build up endurance and strengthen a large number of muscles.

Preparing for a swim competition

Are you training not only to build up muscle but also for a competition?

Then you should train regularly - at least twice a week. Improving your swim technique is the be-all and end-all. With a good technique, swimming becomes easier and you also get faster. As soon as you feel fit enough, test your skills at one of the swimming competitions here in the Dachstein Salzkammergut.
